Book Sales Analysis 2025: Best Day of the Week for Amazon Free Book Offers

I’m Jon Lymon, an indie book author whose best selling titles include the novel The Wronged and the novella The Ghost of Christmas Threeve. Not heard of either? Well, like I said, I’m an indie book author.

For the whole of 2025 I tracked the sales, giveaways, and KENP performance of my books (10 novels, 3 novellas and several children’s books). The tracking was carried out manually, looking at reports from Amazon and D2D. No Ai was used, because Ai never needs to be used when you have a brain.

Now I’m sharing some of the results, which may or may not be of interest/assistance to other indie writers. If not of interest, best move on.

About Amazon Free Book Offers

To offer a customer a freebie of your book on Amazon, you need to register with KDP Select, which means the digital edition of your book can only be available for sale on Kindle/Amazon. So you’ll need to delist it from other platforms. And I recommend you do follow the rules as you don’t want an email from Amazon. They will find out.

KDP Select enrolment lasts about 3 months. This allows you to offer EITHER a Kindle Countdown Deal or 5 days of free giveaways during the 3 month term. I’ve had plenty of success with the latter, but Countdown deals haven’t worked with me.

Which day of the week was best for free book giveaways?

Freebie Friday sounds good from an alliterative point of view. And according to my stats it looks good from a free book giveway perspective.

Because Fridays were the best day of the week for free book giveaways in 2025.

Thursday and Wednesday were a fairly close 2nd and 3rd respectively, those 3 days a long way ahead of the others in terms of free units shifted in 2025.

Learnings:

While I would have thought that Saturdays and Sundays were the best days for freebies, that proved to not be the case. So in 2026, I will be focusing my freebie giveaways on Fridays, Thursdays and Wednesdays, with fewer offers at the weekends.
