Book Sales Analysis 2025: Best Month of the Year for Book Sales

I’m Jon Lymon, an indie book author whose best selling titles include the novel The Wronged and the novella The Ghost of Christmas Threeve. Not heard of either? Well, like I said, I’m an indie book author.

For the whole of 2025 I tracked the sales, giveaways, and KENP performance of my books (10 novels, 3 novellas and several children’s books). The tracking was manually conducted, looking at reports from Amazon and D2D. No Ai was used, because Ai never needs to be used when you have a brain.

Now I’m sharing some of the results, which may or may not be of interest/assistance to other indie writers. If not of interest, I won't detain you any longer.

Best Month of the Year for book sales in 2025

Today, I’m looking at the best month of the year for book sales for me in 2025. And I’m well aware that the date sales are reported may not always be the same date that the sales actually happened, but there’s nothing I can do about that.

Anyway, down to the figures.

3rd best month of the year for book sales:  SEPTEMBER

2nd best month of the year for book sales: DECEMBER

Best month of the year for book sales: OCTOBER

Learnings:

Sales are stronger during the months of the year when the weather’s a bit dodgy. For the record, November was 4th best for sales.

I’m not a writer of beach holiday books – fewer people are packing my books into their suitcases and taking them on holiday than they are snuggling up with a copy by the fire when the nights are drawing in.

October was number one due to impressive sales of my children’s picture book, Is It Halloween Yet?

December was actually top of the tree in terms of the value of book sales generated, but not the individual number of units shifted.

In 2026, I will be focusing the lion’s share of my advertising budget on the colder months of the year in the UK – January to March and September to December.

I will report back if anything of note happens...
