Support Human Voice Artists

Cards on the table – I can’t stand AI in any form in the creative industries. There’s no need for it. Develop your own talent, people. Don’t surrender your thinking and doing to useless machines that just generate slop. You’re better than that, and even if you think you’re not, you can get better than that by applying yourself. Learning to write and draw.
The stuff AI spews out is mere bile that’s been trained on the works of other writers and artists. Their works have, in most cases, been illegally scraped from the internet and used to train crappy writing and drawing machines, charging subscriptions that are lining the pockets of talentless tech bods who don’t give a shit about creativity and who aren’t giving any credit or compensation to the artists whose work their machines have not only ripped off, but which are now competing for work against those very same artists.
As a self published author, I’m seeing how easy publishers want to make it to get an AI audio recording of my books. But I’m not having a bar of it. I don’t want my words read out by a thoughtless, emotionless machine, even if many people might think my work is already thoughtless and emotionless.
Us writers need to support voice artists. Of course it’s more expensive to hire a human to read our words than to get a machine doing it. But the results from a machine will be just that – mechanical, lacking authenticity – that’s why it’s so cheap. And any money they charge will line the pockets of tech bods who really don’t care about your book or writing in general.
You can’t beat getting a human being to add their talent, intonation and passion to a reading. Presently, none of my books is popular enough to warrant getting an audiobook recorded, but if you’re a writer who’s at a stage when it makes sense to get a recording, reject the virtual voice and invest in humanity. The recording is something you’ll only need to do once, so it’s worth doing well.
I’m confident the AI bubble is going to burst soon, and with so many people regarding anything AI produced as low grade, lazy crap, you’re best off avoiding it altogether, whether it’s for a voice recording, a book cover, or perhaps worst of all, to write book content.
Support humans, not machines.
If you’ve got this far, there’s a chance that a few of my most recent books may be of interest…
