The Incredible, Miraculous, Stupendous Disappearing Sale

There it was, gone. As quickly as it arrived on my sales dashboard, the incredible, miraculous, stupendous, disappearing sale had vanished into air that some might call thin.

There was I, fist clenched in celebration of a Saturday sale which sadly don't happen as regularly as I'd like. My anti-AI novel Last Writer Sitting had shipped a copy stateside.

What could have happened? Somebody thought they were getting the Last Boy Scout or something, realised their mistake and demanded their 0.99 cents back immediately?

Here's the dashboard evidence of what I was left with, as I wasn't quick enough to snap a pic of the sale registered on my dashboard:

A top-earning book of the day that's earnt the princely some of absolutely nothing! That's a first for me!

Speaking of Last Writer Sitting, I'd like to blow my own trumpet about a couple of predictions made in that book (written and released in 2023), namely:

The advent of Olympic style games with no holds barred into terms of what participants can do and take to boost their performance. It's happening for real here at The Enhanced Games.

The use of AI brain implants as an attempt to elevate thinking power. It happens to my main character and it looks like it's on the cards here.

Last Writer Sitting also contains a rabble rousing speech about how AI discriminates against humans, but we must all remember, it's not the AI itself that's pulling the strings, but the human beings in positions of power who are looking to make more money by cutting their payroll and handing jobs to machines.

To briefly return to the initial subject matter of this post, there's perhaps a moral to be shared here about not counting your chickens before they've hatched, or not saying good riddance to those goose eggs on your sales dashboard before they've hatched!

Jon Lymon does not support the use of AI in the creative industries. Use your brains, people.
